PPWR Compliance: How We Support Our EU Private Label Partners

At LBP Bar’s Factory, we make confectionery, protein bars, and protein cups for clients across the EU. Naturally, packaging matters to us. That is why we have been preparing for the EU’s new packaging rules, and why PPWR compliance now shapes how we work every day.

Why the new rules exist

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2025/40, or PPWR) replaces older, fragmented national rules with one clear framework. Its aim is simple: less packaging waste, safer materials, and packaging that is easier to recycle. In addition, it sets common standards across the single market. As a result, everyone in the supply chain follows the same expectations, which helps consistency for brands and consumers alike.

The main obligations in focus

Several obligations now guide what compliant packaging should look like. For example, packaging must keep restricted substances low, including heavy metals and PFAS in food-contact packaging. Moreover, each packaging type needs technical documentation and an EU Declaration of Conformity. Finally, labelling and recyclability requirements encourage smarter, more circular design. Many of these rules apply from August 2026, while some design targets phase in later. We treat all of them as practical goals, not just paperwork.

How we handle PPWR compliance

We take a steady, step-by-step approach. First, we run internal checks on the materials we use and on the data behind them. Then, we work closely with printing and packaging suppliers who already meet these requirements. Because our partners share test reports, material details, and recycled content information, we can keep our own records complete and up to date. In short, good suppliers make good compliance much easier.

Supporting our clients as a supplier

Many of our EU clients act as importers, and under the regulation they often carry the manufacturer’s responsibilities. Therefore, our job as a supplier is to make their job simpler. We provide the information and technical documentation they need to demonstrate conformity, from bills of materials to substance data and recyclability details. In addition, we keep this documentation ready on request, so nothing slows down a product launch.

Moving forward together

We see PPWR compliance as a shared journey rather than a hurdle. Sustainable packaging is clearly where the market is heading, and we are happy to move with it. So if you are one of our partners and have questions, please reach out. We are always glad to help you find the right documents and the right answers. Above all, we want compliance to feel easy, so you can focus on your brand and your customers.
